Actually, it's Viet Nam, but in college in the US, they accept the word Vietnam.

In English, it's "Vietnam"

It's actually two words as in Vietnamese language.  Viet Nam.  The other is the English version.

Viet Nam ! Viet means Viet people and Nam means Southern (in comparison with China - check the map) So it means Viet people living in the South . You need to read the history to find out more .

In Vietnam, they spell it as "Viet Nam". Here, in America, we spell is "Vietnam".

In vietnamese, it is spelled "Viet Nam". Two words because most vietnamese proper names and such comes in pairs. "Vietnam" is how non-vietnamese languages spell it, they combine and make into one word. Neither one is wrong, it just depends on where and with whom you are using it.
