Which would you rather have in your back yard? Regardless of cost, or effectiveness. I'm just wondering, because of the amount of people who slam wind power because the windmills are "ugly".

Are they any more ugly than:

and yet these have sprung up all over the country without much controversy.

  1. The coal mine picture is unfair as nobody lives near a coal mine.

The windmills must be ugly.  Senator Ted Kennedy said that they were too ugly to be placed of the coast of Massachusetts and he prevented their construction.  The windmills would only have been visible to him when he went out on his yacht.  And we all know how Ted Kennedy is interested in the welfare of the nation, rather than in his own power.  Did I manage to say that with a straight face?

  2. I agree with you, I think wind power could be a the greatest source of power.

  3. YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD POINT!   THE FIST AND SECOND PICS ARE BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!        I THINK THE 3RD IS VERY PRETTY AND IN COLORADO THEY HAVE A FIELD OF THEM AND IT LOOKS VERY NICE... THOSE OTHER WINDMILLS ARE UGLY AS h**l ....  SO THE 3RD PIC IS MY PICK....    PS I THINK YOU SHOULD START SOMETHING WITH THIS FIGHT AGAINST THE PEOPLE WHO THINK THOSE WIND MILLS ARE UGLY. AND POST THIS ON WEBSITES EVRYWHERE!!

  4. I would rather have the windmill, but it is an unfair question. That plant probably produces 1000-2000 Megawatts of power. A comparison photo would have to be of a thousand windmills spread over miles and miles of land or water, and would as far as reliability and cost, the wind power depends on nature which is very unpredictable, and is more expensive.

Do you want your power supply unpredictable and more expensive? If so, then wind power is great.

Don't get me wrong. I like wind power. It has it's place and can help tremendously in reducing foriegn oil dependance and reduce pollution. I just don't like it when uninformed "Environmentalists" making simplified comparisons that do not tell the whole story. Your question seems to imply we can just simply replace power plants with wind power. We can only do this if the population is willing to pay more for power and suffer the inconvenience due to reliability.

  5. I really think the windmills are actually very pretty.  There's really no comparison to clean windmills and filthy coal plants, now is there?

  6. I like the way you think !

  7. Those wind mills on the ocean look fantastic. You could have holiday accomodation incorporated around them.... I'm thinking "Water World" only modern... you know like that hotel in Dubai. Wonder what happens when the weather is bad?

Oh well.. never mind.. they look slick anyway... you'd have to be careful not toplace them in shipping lanes.. but a lighthouse on one of them would work I suppose...

Actually, I am sort of getting cold on the location.. now. Maybe they shouldn't be out in teh middle of the marine environment.. it has to impact on their longevity... maybe we are meant to be land creatures. Ive got an idea.. why not have little ones.. one on each house for example.. all hooked up on a grid.. just like the internet. :-)

  8. i'll tell you what, i not only dont mind the windmills, I ACTUALLY LIKE THEM!

i saw them in Atlantic city NJ for the first time a few years ago and i liked how they look.  I would love to see a skyline of that.

You're absolutely right on this one.  The ONLY arguement they have agaisnt these windmills is that they dont look good.  Thats B.S.!!! I bet you most people like them too....
