"Heart Unsheathed"

My heart,

tarnished silver.

Your touch,

beautifully abrasive,

cutting away metal

to reveal

something

frighteningly alive.

Breathing

never so terrifying.

Silver sliced away,

raw emotion

unknown.

So vibrant,

to look at you

is to die

a little more...

except

that your kiss

makes me breathe.

  1. sometimes one more than the other.

    symbiotic they are.

..like your poem to lucky ears.

  2. Seems to me that the touch is the most affective thing here.  The touch first abrades the tarnish then more forcefully cuts away the silver entirely.  Nothing except your question makes me want to believe the touch is a knife.  The words 'unsheathed', 'cut' and 'sliced' allude to knives.  However, the sheath is just as easily the silver casement around the heart.  The cut needn't be the result of a knife.  It isn't until we reach the word 'slice' that we become convinced that the touch is an extension of the subject's heart and allows the protagonist to expose his/her heart for the subsequent emotion in which the protagonist relishes (perhaps to his/her detriment).

    Excellent work.

  16. Express love; how do I ?

    I cannot count it,

    I cannot measure it,

    I cannot explain it;

    to express

    my feelings

    will take more

    than mere words.

    My only comparison

    can be found

    within my

    own breath,

    for with

    each breath

    I draw

    my life continues,

    in each breath

    I take

    our love

    grows.

    Without you

    to love

    I would be

    empty and void,

    a shell

    beyond repair,

    you are my breath

    and nothing less

... a knife can wound you, possibly kill you... but love... love owns you... love is your soul.
