  1. The .357 magnum will penetrate better than the .45 acp but, the .45 has more stopping power just becasue of its size and weight.

  2. .357 mag definetley

  3. 45 acp is for soft target and a 357 for penatration.

  4. Both have great penatration value, but I believe the .357 round travels faster.

  5. defnetly the 357 mag, and i will give you a couple examples why. when the 357 round first appeared in the 1930's it was tested on a large, i think iwas was polar bear. a clean, one shot kill at 40 yards i think it was. try that with a 45 auto, and the bullet will hit the ground before it even hits the target. revolvers are built tougher, they last longer, and a hot load such as a 357, alos refferred to a 38 on steroids requires a tougher weapon to be fired from. now one must not confyuse stopping power with fire power. they are two completely different things. a 45 has more firepower simply because it has a larger load capacity and can spit out a greater number of rounds in a shorter time. but shot per shot the 357 mage wins over the .45 acp round almopst every time

  6. Check out the link below. I think this will help.

  7. A .357 Magnum has much higher velocity and more momentum than a .45 ACP. It has more penetration too. Elmer Keith and Jeff Cooper observed that kinetic energy is not a reliable indication of KO power, since it gives the edge to higher velocity bullets, but momentum gives weight and velocity equal consideration, so it is more accurate as an indication of KO power.

  8. The tried, true, tested, and proven to be the best no-nonsense man stopper, the 357 MAGNUM.*

  9. 357... I have one and want a 45!!!

  10. 357 magnum, from what I'm told, is the best manstopper yet.

  11. I am surprised on how many wrong answers you got so far,the 357 may be faster but,the 45 is bigger around and weighs more therfore it has more stopping power.

  12. The .357 magnum round has better stopping power than the .45 auto round and here's why.  The stopping power of a bullet is not  only related to the size and weight of the bullet.  It is also related to the velocity of the bullet.  This is why rifle bullets have much better stopping power than handgun bullets despite being smaller--they travel much faster.  The energy of a bullet is E=MV^2.  Where M is the mass of the bullet and V is the velocity of the bullet.  The velocity of the bullet is more influential in its stopping power than its mass.  A .45 auto round travels about 800 fps.  A .357 magnum round travels about 1400 fps.  Therefore, the .357 round has better stopping power despite the smaller size.  Likewise, a .338 win rifle round has better stopping power than a .357 magnum handgun round despite being smaller because the .338 rifle round travels about 2500 fps.  The statistics on one-shot stops for handguns prove that indeed the .357 magnum is the king of stopping power.  The one-shot stop % for the .357 magnum is about 96%.  The one-shot stop % for the .45 auto is about 89%.  Bottom line---either round will drop an attacker pretty fast.

  13. well they are both man stoppers with geat reputations in the firearm world. the .45 is a slower round but itll put you on your @$$ if it dont kill ya first. I think they maybe the same as far as power, though i could be mistaking.

  14. 357mag.

  15. .357 hands down...

  16. the .357 round has more kinetic energy and definitely hits harder, I have shot metal silhouette  targets with both and the .45 just plinks against them, but the .357 knocks them over (50 yards away)

  17. .357
