And after you get married, are you technically allowed to wear the engagement ring on your ring finger if it's the flashier ring? Or how does this work?

  1. The engagement ring is the bigger ring. It stands above the wedding ring. But to me, the wedding band is more important then the engagement ring.

  2. engagement.

  3. engagement ring is the bigger one. you wear them both on the same finger... wedding band on first; closest to your heart, and then the engagement ring after it.

  4. As far as which should be bigger, it's all a matter of personal taste.  If you prefer to have a "flashier" engagement ring with a small band that complements it, that's fine.  Others opt for a simpler E-ring with a fancier band, even a "jacket" band (the E-ring goes in between).

You ARE "allowed" to wear your engagement ring on the same finger as your band.  However some that have opted for a larger, wider band simply put their E-ring away for safe keeping or wear it on their right hand.

  5. engagement

  6. i guess its all to your preference which one is bigger.  But I know most women have a flashy engagement ring and a less flashy wedding band.  I have a nice engagement ring and i have just a plain wedding band.  But you can buy a set which compliments each ring.  You are supposed to wear your engagement ring even after you're married

  7. I know plenty of people who wear their engagement on their right hand if they have a flashier wedding band.  I think whatever you want to do.  Usually, though, the wedding ring is worn on the left ring finger, with the engagement stacked on top.

  8. Depends on where you are and what your culture is. In Ango saxon countries you wear the engagement ring together with the wedding band on the left ring finger.

I will only be wearing my wedding band on my left hand. I don't have (nor do I want) an engagement ring. We chose left as we both a right handed and my SO did not want a ring on that hand. I opted to have my ring on the same hand. Here (continental Europe/Netherlands) we are less hung up on the left and right hand thing.

  9. The engagement ring is typically larger. During the ring exchange ceremony, the wedding band is referred to a continuous circle of precious metal so, in my opinions, it should be simple. A "band" is a simple circle. When considering what type of band you would like on the engagement ring, keep in mind what type of wedding ring you will want. Some wedding rings will not sit flush beside some types of rings. In that case you may decide to have a fitted wedding ring that wraps around the engagement ring. If so then be sure to talk to some ladies who wear these fitted rings – some love them and some are driven crazy by the the fact they often do not always sit together properly.

Half round bands are generally more comfortable and look classy. Flat bands are sometimes used because they suit a particular style, but the sharp corners may be rounded off a little for comfort. Another popular treatment for a band is a 'comfort fit' – the band is slightly half rounded on the inside, this is a must for mens' wedding rings and wider bands in general.

Band width is a personal thing and depends on hand size, skin color and personal style. Generally white designs are finer than yellow gold rings.

You will also need a finger size for your engagement ring, if you are ordering it over the Internet:

Visit a jeweler with your partner and ask to have the finger size measured.

If the ring is a surprise, "borrow" a ring that you know fits well and take it to a jeweler to be measured. You will probably be able to find a ring that fits on her right hand, and if she is right handed then the left hand (that's where the engagement ring is worn guys) is generally ½ a size smaller.

I wear my smaller first ring on my right hand but that was only after I recieved a new "flashier" ring for a 10th anniversary.
