Which is the 'Wiser' of the two animal, the cat or the dog ?

notice, this is not a 'which is smarter - the cat or the dog?' question - its simply asking which is the wiser of the two.

My personal opinion is the cat

because you have to earn their affection

A dog tends to get upset then forget about it

you just have to feed it or throw it a ball and then its happy

I am not saying you don't have to treat them right though

it's just an example

Cats seem more warey of humans thats all

About ten years ago a state university in the midwest did a long term study to determine which was the more intelligent animal between dogs,  cats and pigs.  I don't remember which university did the study but I do remember reading about it when they released the results.  Their results were that dogs,  pigs and cats have about the same intelligence.  There were differences in individuals in all three species but no significant differences as a whole.

Actually, the cat is smarter than the dog.  But it also can depend on the breed of the dog.  If this helps, here are some smart dog breeds:

brittany spaniels, german shepard's, Dalmatians... dogs like that are hunting dogs, or protective dogs.  Either way, they're still loyal... if you treat them right.

A year ago, I would have said what most of the people on here are saying...the CAT is 'wiser'. But after having a cat, and seeing how stupid cats can be.  Well I am no longer thoroughly convinced. lol. People say cats are more intelligent because they "choose" not to do what we say, or  work for our affections...but my cat is a moron. For the first 6 month's of his life he chased his own tail, and when he bit it he would get mad @ me because he thought I did it.  He has fights w/ himself in the mirror, runs into walls....the works. lol. Now keep in mind this is a Siamese cat.. Supposedly one of the most intelligent breeds there are.  Now there are some really stupid dogs.. But I have never seen a cat as intelligent as a German Shepard, or Labrador retriever. Well thats just me. lol. I love both cats and dogs regardless.

Depends on the individual animal. My dog can act stupid, but at other times he can be extremely clever. My cat is too scared to even jump on a fence, but my other cat knows how to open windows and turn taps on.

But wiser, I would say a dog.

The dog is wiser.   A dog knows his human is his safety and stays by his human at all times, especially going bye bye.   A cat goes for the terain.  If the human leaves, the cat is left stranded alone without that safety and must fend for himself.

I don't think they can be generalised - like blonde and brunette, like president and prime minister. Some cats are wiser while some dogs are, depends on the singular animal.

A cat is a female and she knows that she is soft and cuddly and knows how to rub her owners up the right way.  She is elegant, independent, self sufficient (can catch mice for food) , he knows how to make her owners laugh..she knows how to cover her own dirt..she knows how to bring presents to those she loves.  Shows her pleasure and pleases people by her purring and her displeasure and anger if you try to offend her by snarling , spitting and scratching .. ...  A dog is a male!  He has a hard body like a man...he sulks like a man when he is told off lol..he wags his tail and looks pleadingly for forgiveness.   He is roguish...He gets excited when he is taken out...the cat will go out on her own independently....he doesn't cover his dirt and leaves it for everyone else to clear the mess....the cat will play ball on her own whereas the dog will take it to his master to throw for him.   A dog is fathful to his owner but the cat isn't she depends on herself only so the cat is wiser because she doesn't have to live w ith a human as she can look after herself but likes the comfort that a human can give her.   The dog relies on a human so has to behave according to mans wishes.  LOL.....(tongue in cheek!)

Dogs.

People just say cats because they are fooled into thinking their slyness and independance makes them wise. Cats don't have the intelligence to perform tricks - maybe some, but not as many as dogs. And it isn't just because they don't want to. They don't know HOW to. I see cats getting run over a lot. Most dogs around my area do not have leashes - they walk by the side of their owner and stand on the pavement before it is free to cross. Cats can't do that.

And for the record - I have had both pets and loved them both equally. I'm just being honest.

Without a doubt the cat. Both have some level of intelligence, but dog's seem to try to work really hard for attention. Cat's have figured out that they don't need to do anything. They can just lie around all day and get all the attention they want.
