  1. They are all the same.

The refineries sell gas to each other which is then sold

    under another brandname.

  2. i get the best milage out of exxon or bp.

  3. There is cheapo gas and Top Tier gasolines.

The Top Tier gas have more deposit control additives.

My Honda gets way better mileage with Top Tier (Shell), but many cars won't see a difference.

Here's a list of Top Tier:

    QuikTrip

    Chevron

    Texaco

    MFA Oil Co.

    Conoco

    Phillips 66

    76

    Entec Stations

    Shell

    The Somerset Refinery, Inc.

    Kwik Trip / Kwik Star

    Aloha Petroleum

    Tri-Par Oil Co.

    Turkey Hill Minit Markets

    Mileage Stations

    Chevron Canada

    Shell Canada

    Petro-Canada

    Sunoco Canada

  4. They are all the same.  Most of them will come from the same refinery and local distribution center.

The octane ratings in the gasoline are regulated by law.  This determins the burn rate in the cylinders.  87 octane is the same with any brand.  98 octane is the same with any brand. 92 octane is the same with any brand. Etc.

Some brands add additives to keep the fuel system clean.  These are highly advertised by the oil companies.  However, their effect is only marginal.  The top tier ratings are provided as advertisement to the companies who supply the product.  You have to consider the source of these ratings and take it for what it is worth.

A little bit of information about octane.  The octane rating has nothing to do with the quality of the gasoline.  The octane rating is the amount of compression a fuel can withstand before it will spontaneously combust.  The higher the octane rating, the more compression it can withstand.  When the fuel ignites under compression instead of when the park plug fires, this is called detonation.  This can cause serious internal engine damage.  This is less common as modern fuel injected engines can make adjustments to the fuel /air mixture and r****d the ignition timing to compensate.

High octane fuel is only required in high compression engines with a compression ratio above 10:1.  Or if you have a power adder like a supercharger or turbochanger.  Otherwise, you are wasteing your money.

Also, high octane fuel has a slower burn rate than low octane fuel.  So if you are using a higher octane fuel than required, a lower percentage of the fuel will be burned in the engine, it will be burned in the catalytic converter instead.  You will actually lose power instead of gaining power.

By the way, I use the cheapest fuel I can find.  I have 2 General Motors products that I bought new.  A 1995 and a 2000.  The 1995 has about 150,000 miles on it and the 2000 has about 125,000 miles on it.  I have never had any fuel related problems with either of these cars.

  5. shell

  6. Here in Canada, we have Esso (Excon in US) Shell, Petro-Canada and Sunoco. Sunco is rated the top best gas and its the cleansed. I use Sunoco in my SUV and I use the middle grade fuel. The crappiest gas is Esso (Excon in US). Second is Petro Canada and Shell and dead last is Esso. Good Luck!

  7. I recommend top tier fuel for all high-performance vehicles/motorcycles.

    QuikTrip

    Chevron

    Texaco

    MFA Oil Co.

    Conoco

    Phillips 66

    76

    Entec Stations

    Shell

    The Somerset Refinery, Inc.

    Kwik Trip / Kwik Star

    Aloha Petroleum

    Tri-Par Oil Co.

    Turkey Hill Minit Markets

    Mileage Stations

    Chevron Canada

    Shell Canada

    Petro-Canada

    Sunoco Canada

In normal cars, I just recommend staying away from cheap fuel (Walmart, Costco, etc)

  8. I used the Shell VPower and stood by it.  After a couple tanks you can see the difference but it is generally a bit more expensive.
