I am going to be in Long Beach for a weekend at the end of the month and I would love to learn how to surf. I'd appreciate it if you could recommend a great Surf School near Long Beach.

Thanks.

  1. Corky's [assuming you meant California. Lots of places are called Long Beach]

The thing is there's a ton of surf places there.

    Just something to consider:

You wont be going during an ideal time - the U.S. Open of surfing takes place in just a few more weeks. That means in addition to crowds and being very territorial place - it can be a nightmare with pros arriving early to get in some practice sessions. They do, and they will.

Long Beach may also be nowhere near Huntington where the even actually takes place, but it's the most crowded event in the surfing world so people and pros will be occupying every available break.

  2. Corkys is the best

  3. I assume you mean Long Beach, California.  Corky Carroll Surf School is north of the jetty along Bolsa Chica, probably the closest place for you to go.  Kim "Dangerwoman" Hamrock also gives private lessons in the area.  Corky's school will be cheaper but there is usually a crowd for every lesson.  The contests in HB are at the pier or near Golden West, well away from Bolsa Chica.  Both schools can be found searching the internet, or you can look on the nssia.org website.

  4. go to huntington, dont surf LB.  its only like 30 minutes away... tops.
