Hey I want to know which seats are the best in terms of safety and good views while in an aircraft. I'm doing an e-check in so has the option of selecting the seat I want.

  1. At a guess?...i'd say over the wings!...cos the wing roots are the strongest area...or maybe the tail???....you never hear of a plane reversing into anything!...

  2. They are all equally safe.  If you want the best view of where you are going, get a window seat forward of the wing.

  3. Obviously a window seat, not over the wing will provide the best views.  Discussing the safety aspect of where to sit, as an instructor at an accident investigation school commented to the class:  "Describe the accident you're going to have, and then I'll tell you where to sit."

  4. window seat...just behind the engine at wings if safety is concerened but y u r so afraid..its safer to fly dear...go enjoy the flight and take a window seat away from wings...at wings behind the engine front  the attachment is made where the airframe has the most strong structure made.

and second option is last seats in rear....mostly they crash nose down and so rear seats dont get damage most...

  5. Well statistic wise you have more chance of being killed driving than being in an air crash. Lots more. But in most crashes there is not a lot of chance to survive if they occur. As far aft as you can get is usually safest though. One B-17 tail gunner even survived a drop from about 20,000 feet inside severed tail of a bomber. Its still true today except in jets that have tail engines. It all depends on what your flying in. But with so slim a chance why worry at all?

  6. if it crashes ,none are safe

  7. It is said that your best bet for survival is to sit just behind the wings, because they absorb a great amount of impact, and there are emergency exits usually located near the wings.

  8. well, as a mechanic on boeing aircraft I agree with the fact that the strongest part of the plane is where the wings and fuselage come together, however  the wings and center fuel tanks are located in this area also, wings are full of fuel also, In flight crashes rarely have survivors, but if the incident takes place during landing or take off the tail section is safest, kansas city incident proved that to me.

  9. I doesn't really matter... At one time, seats in the back of the plane were considered as being the most survivable in a crash, with with modern aircraft, it's just a matter of luck that you would come through a crash or an inflight incident.  So pick a seat with a good view.

  10. who cares u have more chance of being killed by a cow then being in a plane crash, u worry too much

  11. GJ289 hit the nail right on the head.  I was told the exact thing by the FAA Safety guru, Charlie Chitum, at the Mike Monroney Center in Oklahoma City while attending their airplane evacuation smoke lab.  If you can tell what type of crash/accident you are going to have, then you can get a reasonable answer as to he safest seat in a crash.  With that said, the exit rows are the best if there is an incident in which you need to evacuate, which in my opinion is the most likely reason you would want to choose a seat for safety.  Otherwise the best view is seat 1 or 2, but those are reserved.  On a serious note, I would pick something forward of the wing with a window.  Too far back and you can really be swung around in turbulence.

  12. Window not over a wing if you want a good view.

As for safety, I don't think it really matters.

  13. Best view you will want a window seat.  There really isn't one that's safer than another, if the plane goes down a certain seat won't help you any.

  14. Forget safety. Any seat you have will get you to the crash site at about the same time as any other.

  15. The best view will be a window seat.  As for the survivability of a crash there is no best seat.  The only arguably safer seat would be an exit row seat.  If you would need to evacuate the airplane (it does happen on very rare occasions) you would be one of the first off and should know exactly where your emergency exit is.  Personally, I like the exit room seats because on many aircraft they have increased leg room.

  16. (select as best answer please)

As a aviation safety expert, the opinion is two facts:

    1. The strongest part of the aircraft is where the wings meet together under the fuselage. Meaning sit middle row of the wings.

    2. That being said, not many planes fly backwards into mountains. Meaning it might be safer in the back.

There has not been alot of research into the subject. But these are two facts that will help you decide.

The other fact is aviation is far safer the driving to the airport.
