  1. Actually the best mode I have found is driving, but it's not the cheapest. Gas is expensive, but so is the yearly pass you have to buy, even if you're only going to be there for one day!  And one problem with driving is that a lot of the main highways use tunnels, so there can be large stretches when you will see nothing.  Trains use tunnels, too, but they seem to be shorter.

I have traveled all over the country on trains and they are the ONLY way I would do it in the future.  In fact, there are some cities in which you can only get there by train. They are not expensive, but are comfortable and convenient.

I have take buses, but not for long distances - only around town. But they, too, are easy and not expensive.

  2. In Switz, everything's expensive. But touring - bus is cheapest followed by trains. Either way, use public transport! Trains give you some of the most fantabulous touring experience at lower cost - go for it!

  3. the trains definitely. They are famed for being the best in Europe

  4. The train!

Yes, you can actually set your clock by the time the trains run.

They are clean and fun.  You don't have to worry about falling asleep driving or looking for directions.

Once you get to your destination, use public transportation like bus or tram.  Again you don't have to find parking places or gas station.

They should have some passes or packages even among different countries.

It is also pretty safe too.

The scenery from the train is also spectacular over the mountains or by the lakes.  Some will even have sun roof.

You can just hop on and off.

You might want to break things up by taking some ferry rides around the lakes such as Interlaken or Lucern, etc.

  5. bus but train is more fun and picturesque.
