I went from Lloyds to HSBC and then HSBC to Alliance & Leicester... They are all terrible banks - such bad service! I am looking for a good UK bank who is reliable and easy to use. Any recommendations?

  1. Nationwide - no charge for card withdrawals abroad, and overall good customer service.

  2. I use Barclays, great service in my experience.

  3. In the UK Building societies are generally better than banks. Nationwide has probably the best current account on the market right now. They pay all of th charges for using your bank card. You can use it in any link ATM in any country anywhere in the world and if you get a charge Nationwide will pay it for you.

  4. Can't say which is the best but whatever you do, don't go with NatWest. My friend and I have both had the most horrific problems with them.

I've had my account frozen for no apparent reason. Even they don't even know why and yet they won't unfreeze it for me. But that's nothing compared to the problem my friend has had.

She keeps having money disappearing from her account. It isn't that somebody is taking out without permission, it actually isn't showing up as ever having been in the account to begin with.

A couple of months back she deposited two cheques equalling almost £25000. She found the money in her bank account one day and then the next day it was gone again. She complained to the bank and they asked for proof. She was unable to trace the cheques for whatever reason but did give them the receipt for when she checked her balance and the £25000 was there. They are now claiming that it isn't a proper receipt because the layout is wrong. She will never get that money back.

    AVOID NATWEST
