  1. As was already stated it depends on what variant of poker you want to play.

For small stakes ($5/$10 and less) limit texas hold em I recommend "Small Stakes Hold 'Em" by Mason Malmuth and David Sklansky.  For the higher limit levels (above $5/$10) I recommend "Hold 'Em For Advanced Players" by David Sklansky.  These books give you some idea of how to calculate the pot odds on each round of betting.

For no limit texas hold em I recommend Doyle Brunson's "Super System II."  The section on no limit does not go into odds however.  I believe he assumes you already know that when you reach this level.  Dan Harrington is coming out with a book which is supposed to be pretty good.

Doyle's "Super System II" also has sections on Seven Card Stud, Omaha, etc..  Again, none of the sections really go into the calculating of odds.

I would suggest you join the Two Plus Two forum website at www.twoplustwo.com.  The site has forums on each type of the most popular poker game.  It also has forums for strategy and calculating odds.

  2. poker books are good for beginners but they make your play very predictable. read them so you know the basics and then figure out how close your opponents play like the book tells them to play. after that play the man, not the game, not the math, not like the book says but play the man.

  3. Best poker books are the Super Systems by Doyle Brunson, look for them at Doyles Room:

  4. I don't think there is one. The odds and %'s alone is it's own book.

  5. there are quite a few good books out there, but it really depends on what you want to play

there is no such a thing as poker

do you want odds and strat for Texas No Limit Holdem, Texas Limit Holdem, Texas Pot Limit Holdem, Seven card stud, Pot Limit Omaha, 5card Draw, Razz, triple draw....?
