Canon or Nikon. There camera ranging from simple Snap and Shoot's (Canon Powershots, Nikon Coolpixs) all the way up to the very high end ones, Digital SLR's (Canon Rebel XTi, Nikon D80) tend to be the best values.

Also, for low-end ones, Kodaks are getting better for the Digital era.

I'm buying myself a digital camera too, pocket-sized, that is. I surfed the net for camera reviews and so far, the Canon IXUS 90 IS is, by far, appreciated the most by camera afficionados. The test shots they presented of the digicam are impressive, especially those outdoor shots, with sun glare. I'm contemplating on Olympus too, the waterproof one, but the outdoor shots pale in comparison with the Canon. Besides, Canon offers waterproof cases.

I personally prefer Kodak's (Easyshares in particular). They may be american made but they're very user friendly and I've gotten the best pictures from them out of any camera I've ever had.
