  1. Laminated is best for cleaning, carpet is good if the room is cold it keeps the heat in, real wood is quite expansive and so can tiles be.

  2. Personally I feel tiles are a good choice in a bathroom - carpet for high trafic areas like stairs, and traditional wooden floors for formal areas (not the nasty laminate stuff )

Althought I have a problem with my old traditional wooden floors - what is the most effective method of stripping them down and restaining them etc?

so happy to have found the forum - i will have lots of questions as i am doing my entire house :)

  3. Hi, In a survey of real estate agents they said that homes with hardwood sold for more and faster. I think it is a matter of personal preference as to what you use. I think any tasteful quality product helps the resale of your home. I personally have hardwood in my kitchen and love it. I also have tile in my bathrooms and entryway and love tile there. I personally do not want tile in my kitchen as it is not very forgiving when something is dropped. I spend a lot of time on my feet in the kitchen and find tile to be a hard surface on your back and legs. Hardwood you do need to wipe up spills right away and should have an area rug by your sink. I have had my hardwood for over 12 years and it still looks great. Hope this helps.
