I currently live in Austria, but after I finish my bachelor's I plan on moving down to the States. I want a city with a population of around 1 million and so far I have picked out Middleton(Wisconsin), New Hampshire and claremont, suggestions?

  1. It is a bit of a silly question, even for an Austrian. What do you mean by best?

Most people in the past that have come from Europe came for greater individual freedom to grab land and to get rich, i.e, for economic reasons, So, let me assume that's why you want to come. Also when you come to the US, you are not moving "down", but you are moving "up". Unless you are living on a big mountain in Austria, and want to move to Texas (flat for the most part)

Let me further deflate your ego, a Bachelor degree is not generally a free ticket in America, lots of us immigrants have Masters and PhD's.  The more education, the better the material prospects. Since the average person in Austria has a higher standard of living in Austria, you could quickly get discouraged in the US. Most Americans work very hard and many hours, and yet the median household income is around $42,000.  I personally think living on $42,000 does not provide for a good life, and based on statistics, many people cannot make and are up to their  necks in debt.

So, if you still want to come, my recommendation for you is Austin, Texas (pop. 1 mill). Do some  Google research on Austin. Great University, where you may go to at least get a Master Degree, good high tech jobs (Dell) and the seat of the Texas Capitol.

But what I would really recommend is to move to Norway or Sweden. Lots of opportunities, high standard of living, and sensible attitudes, little crime.

  2. How about Dallas Texas or New York thous are the big est city's in the U.S.A.

  3. Please stay in your own country. I would never consider leaving mine so why oh why do you want to leave yours. It seems you all want to come here...what's wrong with say ...France, you know they have all the right art !!!

  4. New Hampshire is a state, not a city.

  5. I suggest you do a lot more research before you go.

Middleton, Wi has a population of about 15,000 not 1 million.

New Hampshire is a state not a city.

Claremont, what. The US is a huge country and there are many Claremont's in it.

Also, you just can't pick up and move to the US. You will need a "green card" at best, or a work VISA at least. Both are not that easy to get.
