Which is the best format for a DVD Video and why?

I have four choices:

1. NTSC; aspect ratio 4:3

2. NTSC; aspect ratio 16:9

3. PAL; aspect ratio 4:3

4. PAL; aspect ratio 16:9

Please give me some understandable and technical details.

  1. It all depends where you live and what type of TV you have.

    If you are in North america, then NTSC. In Europe and other places PAL.

    If you plan to watch it in a 4:3 TV, pick 4:3 (full screen), if you plan to watch it in a widescreen TV, pick 16:9
