Which is the best free AntiVirus software?

Question

i am using iolo antivirus now but i dnt think it's of much use. so, i m looking for a free, powerful antivirus. not the trial versions. some of my friends suggested Rising Antivirus to me. wat do u think? i want the anitivirus to b available for download online. so, do u kno any such ones? could u plz giv me the website of any powerful and free anitvirus software? i think avira is the BEST  free antivirus. it has been proven that it has better virus detection then avg and avast and its lightweight meaning it will not slow down your pc. for antispyware get superantispyware free edition. this antispyware is light weight and it has EXELLENT spyware trojan adware and malware detection it can also be used to remove fake or rouge antivirus programs that can cause your pc to mess up. I used to use iolo antivirus but it seemed to slow down my pc. Use them both and your pc will run alot faster and virus/spyware free i guarintee

  I have tried AVG and Avira but I was not that impressed with them so I do not suggest those to you.

I use Avast anti virus and it works really well I'm pretty sure its free so you could try to look it up on google or Yahoo and maybe the Free download pops up. I'm sorry if this question is terrible but avast anti virus is Good.

If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

1. AVG Free

a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)

b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses

Cons: low virus detection

2. Avast!

a. Real-time protection

b. It has an option to delete a virus once found

c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.

Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

3. Avira AntiVir

a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG

b. It's cute umbrella icon

c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses

McaFee is the best.  Saved my *** a couple of times from Limewire and some free p**n sites I visited.  Comcast offers it included in high speed.  Otherwise about $75.00 a year.

Remember, as in all things in life, you get what you pay for.  AVG is free, how good can it be?

Also, for protecting your personal info and files, use Ad-Aware 2008 Free Edition:

All of them are free, as powerful as paid programs, like Norton and McAfee, and don't use up as many resources.

Just boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 when turning on the computer) and run full scans.

I use avast! and its great. Everytime someone tries to attack my computer even when im not near it i know because of the fact that it sounds an alarm. Its free and all you do is i think register it every 14 months so that way it stays yours and in use. My suggestion is if you do download it to register it immediately. It updates by its self all the time you don't have to worry about going on the website or clicking okay for it to update it does it on its own and tells you "the virus database has been updated". Also when u install i suggest that u tell it YES to a boot scan. It'll restart the computer and before it goes back into windows it will SCAN EVERY FILE. and its a good idea to keep an eye on it because if there are viruses found you then can press a number to delete the virus and the scan will continue. But if you dont watch it it wont continue till you tell it what action to do... I hope this helps you! good luck if you find something you like better though.
