Wow, the two places recommended above look very nice.  I stayed at Hotel Sinaloa.  It was ultra low budget at only $10 per night.  No perks and definitely not a resort, but only $10!

I would suggest The Quinta Don Jose Boutique Hotel

had the most wonderful time at the Quinta Don Jose. The owners and help were absolutely the best in any place that I have ever stayed at! The service was amazing! Plus I loved the grounds and the detail given to everything, including the way the flowers are arranged at the tables for breakfast. The breakfast is a buffet, with fresh fruit, pan, and a variety of entres every morning. I loved my room and the beautiful tiled bathroom! Another plus is its location! You are within minutes to all the central places in the city. Across from the hotel is the bus stop where you can go directly to Guadalajara! The Quinta Don Jose is a GEM AMONG GEM and I am now looking forward to returning!!!
