I want to open an online store to sell stuff. I don't know which hosting and publishing company to go with. I don't want to spend a lot of money either. From a programmer point of view, which hosting company is good. I wanted to sign up with stores online but i heard its not Google friendly and is too expensive. Please share!

  1. Take a look at: http://threehosts.atspace.com/business There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry.

  2. I don't know what the other guy is talking about, but I have been great with godaddy.  Their customer support is fantastic!  And, it is very affordable.

Also, go to http://www.rmbdomains.com/affiliates for all of the top hosting companies.

  3. In all honesty, GoDaddy has terrible hosting.

Go to webhostingtalk.com and post there, people on those forums are much more knowledgeable than those on yahoo answers.

  4. Don't go with Godaddy

Go with a host that has cpanel. Cpanel features a group of 1 click install scripts called fantastico. One of the 1 click installs is something called

Zen Cart - but there are many others

Web hosting Buzz is one of the cheapest that has it

Here is a list of hosts that feature fantastico:

    http://www.samwilson3d.com (right side menu)

    compare them.

Samwilson3d is also in inexpensive web design service, they designed 3 of my websites (look here at my latest : http://www.signaturecowboy.com )

  5. GoDaddy.com has good hosting for cheap, and theres lots of free webstores out there.

  6. My take on this is that you should not spend the time or energy making an online store yourself from scratch but instead, use an online tool that allows you to build an online store yourself. You will want to do this because setting up an online store takes up a lot of work and you should concentrate on the marketing aspect of your store - copywriting, pricing, SEO, etc. Those are the things that will get others to buy from you. I would recommend you to use Yahoo Merchant Services - http://starturl.com/yahoostore . It has everything you need to get started and you can customize it as much as you like. It is $26/month for the first three months so it's definitely worth trying out for a few months. It's definitely search engine friendly too and has a huge customer base.
