  1. the Honda Fit is better car.

it comes standard with all power accessories, side curtain air bags and ABS brakes.

the Yaris has a noisy unrefined engine, bad brakes and a terrible Hwy ride at any speed over 50 mph. The center mounted gauges are annoying but not as irritating as the bumpy choppy ride.

the Yaris gets 34 mpg w/manual, 33 with the automatic

the Fit gets 34 and 32 with the auto.

the 2000 Honda Insight got 51 mpg.

2000 to 05 Toyota Echos got 41 mpg.

  2. Toyota Yaris gets the best mileage, but it's a mediocre car.

A size up is always better, a lot safer than compact cars.

  3. Good strategy, as there are a lot of hidden costs in owning a hybrid that defeat the purpose of buying it in the first place.  The Yaris yields slightly better fuel mileage overall, but both cars are excellent in fuel efficiency.

  4. I drove both for test drives quite a few times and now own a 2008 Honda Fit Sport.

The Yaris is too small for me. The ride is bumpy and noisy and I felt pretty much like I was skipping over the road at 45mph. It was horrible at getting up to speed on the freeway, which is really important to me as I live in San Diego and freeways are everywhere. The gas mileage is great, though. But the Fit gets the same mileage for a lot nicer car.

The Fit is bigger so I can store my groceries better, along with the stroller in the cargo area. The magic seats are awesome! I have used all the configurations at least once. The engine is powerful, the Sport model has a 1.5L VTEC. It has no problem getting up to 65mph so I can merge easily into traffic from the on-ramp. It's super fun to drive, turns on a dime and is a lot quieter than the Yaris. I drive from San Diego to Las Vegas frequently (I have family in Vegas) and I would not want to be driving a Yaris for 5 hours straight. My neighbor bought a Yaris and has told me that he regrets it and would much rather have a Fit or a Matrix now that he's driven a Yaris for a while.

  5. the yaris hatchback 5spd is better, but for automatics its about the same
