Which is the best personal firewall for Windows XP?

I use to use Sunbelt's Kerio personal firewall but it is old and the installation is somewhat corrupt now. It is a terrific program, and in my opinion the best firewall for it's time. However I believe support for it has been discontinued. I particularly like it's "application behavior control" and how it alerted me when an application was attempting to launch or replace another and gave me the option to permit or deny it.

Other features I liked about it is how it prevents code injection and gave me the options to disable Javascript, ActiveX, VSB etc. for all web browsers at any given time (which is useful because if you change the settings in the web browser, then the browser needs to restart).

I know that any Norton product is c**p so don't bother telling me to use their firewall, haha. Thanks for the input.

  1. Comodo firewall is the best for that and its free, however its best to turn off DEFENSE + if you just want a firewall and no other protection, if not leave it on if you want to be alerted when you are installing programs Updates etc...

  2. I don't know about the best.  I'm using Comodo Firewall and it's free...I haven't any problem yet.  You might give it a try.
