Which is the best route to use from KL to Kuala Terengganu? In-land or coastal road? Is it advisable to drive?

Self drive trip with family - total 7 of us from KL to Redang. To save money, we have chosen to drive the MPV but I am worry about the road trip as we all are not familiar with East Coast... Please share me some of your experience...

Look like you are going for a holiday, so don't use the highway because you n family would miss out lot of interesting scenery along the way, unless you are in a hurry !

Its going to take you about 7 to 8 hours in order to reach Merang, so plan your trip properly [ get a good map ] with enough times to spare if you decided to drive leisurely !

Along the road there are many things that you can do, especially from Kuantan onward, where there is the beautiful sea/beach on your left and the green jungle on your right ! Stop and take some photo if you so wish !

You may wanted to visit Cherating [ the beach n turtle hatchry ], Kemaman for that kopitiam n keropok lekor ! Sample some of the local delicacy like air nira, kuih akok, satar etc etc !

The east coast's road is very enjoyable to drive through, just make sure you never speed !

Kl to Karak (Lebuhraya KL-Karak)

Karak to Jabur (lebuhraya Pantai Timur)

Jabur is the last exit at this moment.

Jabur to KT (thru Cherating)

Kt to Setiu.

..u have no choice...but to take the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur...via Karak Hiway...exit at Kuantan and all the way to Kuala Trengganu....

...the roads in Terengganu is good....from Kemaman it is 3 lanes...very straight....no problem...
