i'm buying a canon 450d camera this week. i'll be getting it with standard 18-55mm IS lens, but would would like to pick up another lens with more zoom to act as a walkabout lens when I am abroad. I could get the kit with the 55-250mm IS lens included but I dont want to carry 2 lens when abroad. Below are my options:

Sigma 18-125mm OS

Canon 28-135mm IS

tamron 18-200mm (this would be second hand as someone near me is selling one, the price is very low)

which is the best option to go for?

  1. As a general rule always stick with the original manufacturers lenses. They may be more expensive but they will last 40 years so the extra money is worth it. I still use my nearly 50 year old Nikkormat with the original lenses.

I have the 28-135mm IS and this is my favorite walking around lens. It covers a very good focal length and is a nice performing lens. I actually use this as a backup lens for weddings and other events as well.

  2. I have a Canon 400D body and bought the Tamron 18-200 lens instead of any of the Canon lenses. Love it. So much easier just to have one than swap around. Picture quality is great, no issues whatsoever. I'd be wary about buying it secondhand though, hope its in good condition. Good luck with it:)

  3. you can compare all their function and price here http://www.amazon.com/gp/comparison/ref=...

Tamron is more cheaper and easy to carry and cover more range for traveling but i'm not sure for the picture Quality.

If you are not concern about the price go for canon.
