  1. Hmm..

they are all some great cameras, however, i would say you should get the sony a200, because it has a bigger screen, and the IS is built into the body, not the lenses you attach to it. However, with nikon and canon, you buy IS through lenses, which is really expensive, but with the sony every lens you attach will take advantage of IS, which is a great convenience, on the a200, you also have a larger screen then on the others.

Oh, and if you must get a nikon camera, you should get the nikon d60, because it's an all together better camera.

If this is your first ever fully adjustable camera and you do not already have some lenses that will fit the above mentioned lenses, the buying the least expensive camera makes a lot of sense.

    1) even the D40 at under $470 with the AF-S 18-55 mm ED lens, has more features on it than any of the first 35 mm SLR's we used to start out using as students in photography and in three or four years, when you are ready to upgrade your body, you may still not know how to use all of its features..

    2) The lenses you buy along the way (new or used) will last for decades, so the camera system you choose is the one you will be using in thirty years unless you have tons of money and can afford to change systems mid-stream.

    3) You may want to buy a good used 35 mm SLR (Nikon or Canon) and take a beginning class in photography to learn all the basic features of photography to avoid learning bad habits and the frustrations associated with attempting to use the "trial and error mode" of learning anything.

Buying the D40 will give you more spare money for buying additional lenses.  In fact, your best investment is in lenses, sense you will be replacing the camera every four to five years.

You must not get sucked in by the Megapixiel marketing ploy
