  1. Just pass it to me........please???

  2. To the left.

  3. Always to the left my boy.

  4. Really quickly, no fannying about, so it doesn't come back down your nose.

  5. Remember the song to the left   to the left.   well thats right

  6. Using your right hand, you pour for yourself and pass it to your left; the person to your left takes it in his right hand and so on until it's gone right around the table. Unless it's a lady on your left, then you pour for her as well before passing it on to the person on her left. The decanter shouldn't touch the table again until it gets back to where it started.  Oh, and the stopper stays where the decanter starts from and isn't replaced until it gets home.

That's for the first round, thereafter the decanter can touch the table and remain unstoppered. The idea is that the first round is poured before the loyal toast and the continual (or is it continuous) passing from hand to hand symbolises an unbroken chain of joining in the toast.

Unless you're at a nautical dinner, then the decanter never leaves the table.

Mind you, if it's your dinner you do it the way you want . . .

  7. On a ship, starboard is right port is left so pass it left

  8. To your left, that is clockwise at a table.

  9. In tradition to the left.

  10. to the left with your left hand, without it touching/resting on the table
