  1. Air

  2. You have to compare specific trips and travel dates.

For example, London to Paris via the Chunnel Train is about 3 hours, and you go from city center to city center. A flight from London to Paris is about an hour, but you have to get to the London airport 2 hours in advance and then it takes almost an hour to get from the Paris airport to the city center. Ticket prices can vary a lot, but you have to add the cost of travel between the airports and the city centers when flying.

However, Paris to Berlin by train takes more than 8 hours and the round trip cost is more than 300 Euros. Flying from Paris to Berlin takes about an hour and the round-trip cost is less than 200 Euros.  Do add the cost of traveling between the airports and the city centers, but flying that route is still both faster and less expensive than taking the train.

  3. Hi,

I have found this site to be useful. Check it out.

  4. Air of COURSE...

  5. You haven't given us enough information.  Departure city? Arrival City? Length of Stay? Time of year?

Train can sometimes be faster for places less than 4 hours away because on a flight you'd need to check in early, clear security, etc.

If you find a seat sale, a plane is generally cheaper for longer distances. If there is no seat sale, then a train will likely be cheaper.
