  1. I think the VC-10.

  2. It is the Boeing 747.

  3. prob the 747, but i think the A380 cruises at 0.86 too.

  4. Cessna Citation X

    Normal cruise - 0.92Mach

  5. In practical terms, the Boeing 747SP, with a normal cruise at Mach 0.88

    Getting more complicated:

The A380 has the highest maximum speed at Mach 0.96, but a maximum cruising speed of Mach 0.89 and normal cruise at Mach 0.85. Boeing 747 has a maximum speed of 0.92 with normal cruise at 0.85 (-400) or 0.855 (-400ER); however the 747SP, of which limited numbers were sold, had a maximum speed of Mach 0.92 but a normal cruise of Mach 0.88. If you count the Citation X as a commercial airplane (depending on if you differentiate between corporate and commercial,) it has the highest maximum cruise speed at Mach 0.92, but no officially listed normal cruise speed. The speed of sound is slightly different for the Citation X at 51,000 ft compared to the airliners at 35,000 ft, but not enough to make a difference in the rankings.

  6. Citation X, at any Charter operation.
