It WAS the Concorde but now I believe the fastest commercial passenger carrying plane is a business jet. It's the Cessna Citation X which cruises normally at 0.92Mach. This is 92% to the speed of sound (1.0Mach). Other subsonic airliners such as the 747-400 cruises in the high 0.8'sMach.

Go Google the Russian Tu-144. It was a competitor of the Concorde and it was actually slightly faster. While the Concorde's top speed was Mach 2.23 (2.23 times the speed of sound), The Tupolev Tu-144 could flly at Mach 2.35. however, it was pulled out of service only after a few months of service due to safety and technical problems.

But now that they're both retired, the fastest passenger airliner is the Boeing 747, which could fly at Mach .885. Most other airliners can fly no faster than Mach .87
