Which is the largest town/city in the uk to not be served by a train station.?

I live in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England..... population 37,500 and we do not have a train station. Anywhere bigger than this??

  1. All towns in the UK are without 'train stations' as we call them 'railway stations' - I hate that Americanisation.

    But rant apart, I agree with Corby. But I've heard about it being relinked to the network for the last 20 years or so and it ain't happened yet - so don't hold your breath.


  2. Corby is the biggest town without a rail station, a population of about 55,000. But it will be getting one in the next few years.

  3. Corby in Northamptonshire, though not for much longer, construction is due to start on its station (its on a freight-only route) next year with it opening for the December 2009 timetable change with an hourly service to London

    Up untill the mid 90s it was Mansfield that was the largest town without a station, but that had a similar re-opening in IIRC 1995
