I don't know if they are very active, but there are some groups that have hundreds & thousands of members. Here are some:

I don't know whether or not Yahoo has statistics on which single group has the most messages posted.  I do know that the largest single Yahoo Group is the FlyLady group, with more than 400,000 members.
