If I check my own it always says I'm miles away from where I am.

If you're looking to find out the VERY general location of a particular IP address, you can try looking in the WHOIS database.  Most of the time you will only be able to trace it back to a geographic region.

The short answer is, "none."  Do you really want the whole world to know exactly where you live, what your phone number is, and by inference from your usage patterns--where you browse to, what accounts you hold on the 'net, what you've said about yourself on blogs & social networking sites, what you like and like to buy?  With that in hand I could creep you out by showing up at your door with a gift that based on what I get from the net, would be something you would like.

Our new age of information makes us very exposed to the curious or the creepy.  If you can find someone's address based on their IP address, you can be found as well.  Be careful, we are far more visible to strangers than we have ever been.

The IP address will only show up as to where the ISP is.

On websites I regularly get adverts specifying Warrington although I am nowhere near there but that is where the ISP is !
