  5. Konya (center of Turkey), Nicosia (northern of Cyprus), hard to say...

One of the world's oldest cities, Nicosia was the center of an independent kingdom as early as the 7th century bc. Known in ancient times as Ledra, it came under Byzantine rule in the early 4th century ad and passed to Guy of Lusignan, the Latin king of Jerusalem, in 1192. The Lusignan kings held Nicosia until it was captured in 1489 by the Venetians. The city passed to the Ottoman Empire in 1571 and to the British in 1878. It was made capital of British-ruled Cyprus in 1925. Nicosia became the capital of independent Cyprus in 1960. The city has been divided into Turkish and Greek Cypriot zones since the Turkish invasion in 1974. Population (2000 estimate) 197,800; (1991 estimate for the Greek Cypriot zone) 166,500; (1989 estimate for the Turkish zone) 39,496.

Konya is one of the world's oldest cities, with excavations revealing settlement from as early as the 3rd millennium bc. Under the Persian Empire, Konya, then called Iconium, was the frontier city of Phrygia. The Romans joined it to Lycaonian district and made it the capital. The early Christians Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas preached here. It is likely that the city had a considerable Jewish population at that time, and became the center from which Christianity spread in south Galatia. In Byzantine times Konya was the seat of an archbishop. In the late 11th century the Seljuk Turks (see Seljuks) gained control of the area, and the city became the capital of the sultanate of Iconium, or Rūm. Konya experienced its greatest prosperity under Seljuk rule and still contains many fine buildings from that period. The city was taken over by Mongols at the end of the 13th century, and later by the Turkmen principality of Karaman. In the latter part of the 15th century it was annexed by the Ottoman Empire. Though Konya declined during the Ottoman period, it was revived again following the construction in 1896 of the İstanbul-Baghdād railroad, which passes through the city. Population (2000) 742,690.

  9. Catal Huyuk and Jericho are considered Neolithic (New Stone Age) settlements, little villages that had no streets, plumbing or sewage...Jericho had a tall stone wall around it for protection, and had houses with a circular base and conical (roof)top. Catal Huyuk, on the other hand, had houses that had the entrance from the top (you would have to climb a ladder and then get inside from the hole on the flat roof)... - Hardly descriptions of cities, wouldn't you agree? :)

Therefore, the sub-question to this question would be: What is considered a city?

Some people cannot believe others who have the right answers. NASA has confirmed that the bridge built by Ram between Srilanka and India is about 17,00,000 years old, though very little of it remains today submerged in  the ocean.  But NASA could see it and date it.  NASA confirms it was built by man.   Ram was living in Ayodhya then.

  21. First world, it's begins a two humans lived, that was a city?

  22. In spite of controversy, a list of the oldest cities might resemble the following:

        * Byblos in present-day Lebanon may date back as far as 5000 BCE and is considered by many to be the oldest continuously populated city.

        * Damascus in Syria has existed at least since 3000 BCE.

        * Varansi in India also dates back further than 3000 BCE.

        * Medinat Al-Fayoum in Egypt is possibly dated at 4000 BCE.

        * Gaziantep in Turkey dates back to 3650 BCE.

        * Hebron in Israel is dated at 3500 BCE.

        * Athens in Greece dates to about 3000 BCE.

        * Arbil and Kirkuk in Iraq have dates of 2300 and earlier than 3000 BCE respectively.

        * Adana in Turkey and Jerusalem in Israel were established around 2000 BCE.

        * Hama in Syria was established before 2000 BCE.

        * Luxor/Thebes in Egypt also dates to 2000 BCE.

        * Jaffa, Israel, and Aleppo, Syria are both about 3800 years old.

Some dispute exists about excluding Jericho from the list. In its present day location, it is about 3400 years old. However, Jericho is often indicated as one of the oldest civilizations, with settlements dating back as far as 11,000 BCE. So many call Jericho one of the oldest cities in the world because some settlement has been established in or around Jericho since the shift to domestication of plants and animals.

Another possible candidate for one of the oldest cities in the world is Catal Huyuk, a site in Turkey. It also dates approximately to the time when Jericho would have been founded, or 3000 years later, depending upon different accounts. It is near the current city of Konya, so it has not been continuously inhabited.
