I want to go to the Caribbean. Not interested in shopping, clubs and nightlife. Not interested in put on shows for tourists. My french is bad, my spanish non existant, and I do not want to spend wasted days between a swimming pool and a bar.

Yes, you guessed it, I am wanting a genuine Caribbean experience with sun, sea, sand and palm trees. Which Caribbean island would you suggest, and why?

  1. Chiristophe is Right u know. The only island that suits ur description perfectly is the Englisg speaking island of Dominica (n.b notto be mistaken with the spanish speaking Dominican Republic).

Activities to do on island include"

*Hiking to one of a kind sites found nowhere else such as our world famous boiling crater lake countless waterfalls and peaceful freshwaterlakes.

    *River tubing

    *snorkelling scuba diving

    *Atv riding

    *horseback rideing.

    *Kayaking

    etctec

The island emphasises on small scale eco tourism and not large scale 5 star sun sand and sea vacation as u see in most of the other caribbean islands.

Most of Pirates of the Caribbean movies 2and 3 were filmed on island for the realistic green and prestine mountainios scenery. You can read the reviews that other ple have posted up on the island on the links i shall provide.

  2. JAMAICA go to one of the fabulous all-inclusive resorts there or there are some small hotels(take a look at tree house hotel in negril where your room is actually in a tree on the beach)  they speak english(with a lovely accent i may add) its such a beautiful island a great deal of unspoiled beauty, great food and some of the nicest people you will ever meet!

  3. haiti is a good choice

  4. I lived in Bermuda for 3 years and it is great.

      Bermuda is another world

Turn around and you will see.

Its the way the people treat you

      Its like a melody

  5. a genuine carribean experince does not include  sea sun and plam trees, yes there are many palms and yes you are surround by beach and sea but i have lived in the carribean for 4 years and i only hang on the beach 1 a month, i would say jamaica is your best bet if you go to the north or in a rural part like manchester or mo bay areas just stay out of touristy areas mind you violence and murder is very high and has reached mo bay and is worse in kingston but its genuine, haiti not so bad in the north but your french is bad just deal with it, barbados is your best bet i think go to babrbados try st barts however very touristy but just seek out the locals and see the island for itself again french but many people know english, dominican republic, as well

  6. I suggest Cuba. It's gorgeous there and you will truly have a real Caribbean/CUBAN experience. There is nothing like Cuba and the Cuban people. They are so warm and hospitable.

AND, Cubans are highly educated. The ones you will be in contact with at the resort (as well as at the airport, tours, etc) all speak English and many other language too. You will not be needing to feel that you're just wasting your days being limited to only the pool and ocean, etc.

The ocean is crystal clear turquoise with powder white sand. It's very clean in Cuba and very safe as well.

There are a lot of amazing sights to see in Cuba and you will just love it there!

  7. Definitely, Puerto Rico. We have a lot of natural wonders if thats what you're looking for. We got the best beaches in the Caribbean, A huge Tropical Rain Forest, one of the world's longest cave systems, The world famous Bio-luminicent bay at Fajardo and of course culture, we have history, architecture, the best shopping in the Caribbean just in case you want to go back to the real world, we basically have the best of both worlds, I've been to most islands in the Caribbean, and they ain't got much to rival us Puerto Rico in beauty.

  8. well thats a tough one to answer they all have there own unique qualities

  9. Barbados, for sure :-)

Beauty of this place is really magical!

  10. Im from puerto rico and this island its beautiful, it has its uniqueness like any other country, but Im sure its not the most beautiful in the caribbean just because Im from here. Ive ask people in San Juan which islands are the most beautiful in the world and people tell me its the greek islands. I ask them which one its the most beautiful in the caribbean and people say bahamas and aruba.

  11. jamaica

  12. Barbados, definitely. Becuae I and many of my friends have been there, and we loved it..it is soo beautiful, and has EVERYTHING you asked for. The pools, the lovely sun, and heavenly beaches, the hotels are great too, and if you like to drink, then go inclusive! Lots of hotels there are all-inclusive!

I wish I could go back again this year! I had the best time of my life there! You will love it, it's like my home-away-from-home! You will never want to leave!

  13. Barbados....ahhhh wish I were there!

  14. Barbados does not have a crime problem unlike what the other people would have you believe. Name one incident of crime that we've had recently besides petty theft. I dare you

  15. to be honest, you will ge the swimming pools etc wherever you go as youll be staying in a hotel. its up to you to get out there and see the real carribbean. every island is individual and has different qualities, lifeystyles, food and people.

the smaller islands like dominica, st.barts, st.kitts etc will be less touristy but expensive

  16. My suggestion would be Cuba, so much history both 500 years ago and the present, gentle, proud people who wil treat you like visiting royalty, no McDonalds, timeshare salesmen or casinos.  Check the links below, they will give you some good information about this beautiful Caribbean island.

  17. I don't usually answer questionS - but for your question I will make an exception. And the one word answer to your question is simple - DOMINICA (Not of be confused with Dominican Republic).

Believe me... if you're looking for genuine Caribbean Experience with sun, adventure, sea, friendly people...DOMINICA is the island for you.

In fact Dominica is so different from the other Caribbean island it markets its as the nature island for the Caribbean.

Dominica's motto is : DEFY THE EVERYDAY - defy the popular notion of  a Caribbean holiday

  18. Until a few days ago I would of definitely without doubt said Antigua.  I would not of recommended Barbados due to the fact that there is quite a lot of crime on the Island and I didn't feel very safe when I visited there (I'm not sure, but perhaps that is why people have given the "Barbados" answers a couple of thumbs down).  Also, Jamaica has a very high level of crime, so again, I wouldn't visit there.  I have always felt safe in Antigua and never experienced any problems or heard of any problems on the 5 occasions I have visited the island.  I must admit, I last visited in 2005, maybe before the start of the new crime wave.  The British Virgin Islands are lovely, but very difficult to get to and although beautiful, perhaps is a bit too quiet.  Depends on what you're after.  Caneel Bay in St Johns (USVI) is a lovely hotel (but should be for the amount it costs to stay there!!).  I haven't stayed there but have visited for the day.  The beach is outstanding.

    Hope this helps.

  19. Not Antigua

BTW. Robertg...  Bermuda is not a Caribbean island.

Bermuda (officially, The Bermuda Islands or The Somers Isles) is a British overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. Located off the east coast of the United States, it is situated around 1770 kilometres (1,100 mi) northeast of Miami, Florida, and 1350 kilometres (840 mi) south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
