  2. They make voice recorders that fit in a pen.  I don't think they have very good sound quality, but that's not what people are looking for in a voice recorder.

    Also some MP3 players have voice recorders in them, including  some of the really tiny ones.  Check out the Sansa Clip, it's about the size of a postage stamp.

    If you want better quality you have to go bigger, but not much bigger.  There are 'field recorders' made by Roland, Zoom, Marantz, etc. that are about the size of a paperback book but have almost professional quality sound.  Also there are some minidisc players, maybe 3 in. square, with microphone inputs that will record very high quality sound.
