The H-1B is a non immigrant classification used by an alien who will be employed temporarily in a specialty occupation or as a fashion model of distinguished merit and ability.

The H1-B visa is definitely a visa which can be adjusted to GC status. It is the most sought after work visa because it can be renewed once up to a maximum of 6 years and it can be converted to a GC within that 6 year period.

The only stipulation is that your employer is the one who will have to petition for you to become a permanent resident. You cannot file for your own GC. The time it takes usually depends on immigration and the company you're working for.

What you should do is figure out from your employer when they will petition the GC for you. But if you're saying you just go the H1B, you should wait awhile before pursuing your GC.

You can't apply.  H1B is a non-immigrant visa.  If your company wants to sponsor you they can file an I-140, but it's up to them to do it.
