But as far as I know the first car maker is Mercedes-Benz, and still they are the best. but I love Audi's.

That's so subjective. If you want the plain and simple most reliable brand you'd be looking at a Honda. But if one couldn't lower oneself to drive such a pedestrian (no pun intended) car, Acura is not the best. For the upper echelon of cars, Jaguar, Land Rover, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Acura, Saab, Volvo, and Infiniti do not qualify as best in terms of their whole package. Each has strong qualities but none are as predictably reliable as a Honda. Even Toyota doesn't have the same longevity (though it's nothing to scoff at).

Aston Martins, Ferraris, and most other exotic sports-oriented brands do not make good daily drivers. Bentley is gorgeous, luxurious, comfortable, and fast... but I don't know that I'd go as far as calling it the best. A 10 year old Bentley will probably be a headache and a half to keep roadworthy.

I would say, based on my own experience and about 20 years as a Car & Driver Magazine reader, that Mercedes Benz is the best. When everything is averaged across the last few decades and attention is given to the very recent (within 3 years) upward trend of quality in MB vehicles, I'd say it wins the luxury and exotic segment's "best" award.

Best also depends on how, where, how much, and when you drive. I've seen a 14 year old Honda not get a $25 oil change for 6 years and drive on the same tires for about as long. I've seen Mercedes that require four new tires after 9,000 miles and $7,000 in cosmetic repairs after being rear-ended.
