  1. So I love how rugby players claim they wear no pads or anything, but guys you do have Body Armour.. I wore it once and it makes A HUGE difference!

And, by the way, football is a COLLISION sport and Rugby a CONTACT sport.

If a football player HIT a Rugby player the way they hit in the NFL, with NO PADS, BOTH players would be either dead or hospitalized!

  2. Rugby, we don't need no stinking shoulder pads and helmets!!!!!!!!!

  3. What else comes from Europe:  Polo, Soccer (or "Football"), Cricket, Tennis, and OH NO, Croquet.  Then you try to redeem yourself with one pseudo sport called rugby? All the rugby players I know just get drunk and molest each other on the field.  Meanwhile, here in the States we realize that real sports consist of American Football and Hockey.  So stop sucking each other's ***** and learn to play a real sport.  Tea times over, LOSERS.

  4. Both games are two totally different games. It would be like comparing Checkers and Chess.

Both games involves speed, strength and agility. They are both played with a lot of power.

As a player that has had the pleasure of playing both, I still come off  field feeling worst off.

Remember: Protective gears can also make good weapons. It's one reason why some shoulder pads are ban from rugby. It gives unfair advantage.

Helmets worn in American Football have blind spots. You don't always see someone coming at you.

You can't compare the two games together as they are both played in very different ways.

  5. Well I for one think badminton is a violent and cruel sport .

  6. Lol rugby hands down mate. There's no protective equipment or anything. maybe a head helmet thing, that's made from half a centermetre faberic that doesn't do much and a mouth gaurd. That's it. ******' look at the p***y gridiron players. Haha.

Also, I use to play rugby union, and scrums and rucks and stuff don't hurt as much as it looks, you're usually full of adrenolen, so you don't feel a thing.

  7. I have plaid both sports. Although my football team was only a forces team. I have no doubts in my mind, Rugby is harder. Firstly because most people in the team have to play the full match so you need to be fitter. Secondly rugby players believe that the best padding for bones are the muscles. So build them up.

  8. Allot of people will say rugby, and I don't disagree, but don't sell American football short. I've been hit harder in High school football then in rugby in any level. In football, you can block, shoulder charge, hit a player while he's in the air, and other things that will get you sent off a rugby pitch. Also the small breaks you get in between plays, just allows your opponent to get himself ready to unload on you, knowing that he doesn't have to save energy for the next ball handler.

I think we can all agree both sports are tough in their own way, and we should join forces and make fun of those fruity soccer players.

  9. I can't believe this debate is still going on.  Ok, so both sports are contact sports, and both have a similar shaped ball, but thats about where the sinliaritys end.  American foot ball is a different animal from Rugby.  I'm a Rugby player so you can guess where my loyalties lie.  but look at it from this way.  compare rugby to Ice Hockey, the similarities are as follows, both teams are on the playing area for the whole game, both play offense and defense, rather than offense on the sidelines when defense is on the field.  both have huge hits, both games are fluid, with no real breaks except for injuries and advertisments, and both sports are stamina based, rather that american football where it is strength valued over stamina.  remember, in American football you can play for 2-3 min, walk off the field and grab that oxygen mask of yours.

  10. They need the padding in the NFL. Shoulder charges and body-checking are legal in American football and at least two players have suffered career-ending neck injuries this season. In the case of Kevin Everett, the injury was nearly fatal.

On the other hand, Heyneke Meyer (the coach of the current Super 14 champions) has said that, "Rugby is not a contact sport... it's a collision sport".

I have played both sports, and the padding in American football gives one a false sense of security. You end up doing things that you would not do if you didn't have the pads and helmet.

  11. rugby all the way

  12. both tough sports. yes the americans wear padding, but that means that they can fly in even harder, as anyone would with that much padding.

Both tough sports played by superb atheletes.

  13. rugby of course, there is no other football.....

  14. Even an American would admit rugby... American footballers have more armor than a tank! Rugby players take it like men! And that American who replied above... You knock all these sports, but you just wear as much padding as possible cos you fear getting scraped knees! We in Europe are men, you are mice! You think American football is some tough-guy sport! Id like to see an American football team go toe-to-toe with any rugby team!
