  1. stay in the marais area which is the 4 arr.  i find the hotels are smaller + charming + not as expensive as some other areas.  you can walk everywhere from this area easily.  i have stayed all over paris & prefer the marais...small restaurants are everywhere as are community markets.

try to get breakfast included w/ your room...  here are some hotels...i stayed in hotel beaubourg once & it was ok...

  2. We stayed in the Hilton Paris which was very nice, has free breakfast, and is just over a block from the Eiffel Tower. It's also near a good train station on the yellow line.

  3. My opinion is that for a tourist the 4th, 5th and 6th arrondissements are the best choices.

But I would go even further and suggest that you limit yourself to the southwest part of the 4th, the northwest part of the 5th and the northern half of the 6th. these are the areas which are known as Le Marias (4th), the Latin Quarter (5th) and the St. Germaine (6th).

These areas are centered around the geographic and historical heart of Paris which is to say, within a 10-15 minute walk of Notre Dame. From this area there is no place in Paris proper that you can't reach by a very brief ride on the Metro or RER.

  5. I'll suggest you hotel Ascot Opera -rue Monsigny no.2. It's a small hotel, but very well located, close to the main beauties of Paris and, at the same time, in a very safe area.
