Please don't just answer "well I think it's the Police because,,,,!". Hard facts only please 'cos I can't find them. I would like to know in terms of percentage in relation to actual force numbers. I imagine it will be the Police for traffic officers getting hit by cars whilst dealing with motorists at the side of A roads and motorways.

I should imagine a lot more police officers die in homicides and traffic accidents, however a significant number of fire fighters die doing an extremely dangerous job.

It should also be remembered that there are only 40,000 firemen in Great Britain, whilst there are 140,000 police in England and Wales, 17,500 in Scotland and over 2500 officers in the British Transport police, making around 160,000 regular civilian police, supplemented by 12,000 Special Constables and up to 15,000 PCSO's.

Furthermore at certain exceptional times such as during the blitz, fire service deaths would have far outweighed that of police officers and this is reflected in their roll of honour.

    Hope this is of Help.
