  1. Lawyers, everyone makes fun of them.  If you said important instead of challenging I would say garbage collectors.

  2. mother

  3. janitors. they may seem like scum just because they have a gross job, but they seriously help prevent infection and viruses and such from floating around. Also, the world would be disgusting. While it may be a bad job, respect them and thank them, because with out a janitor, you would be filthy.

its kinda like a spider or a bat- you may think its weird, without it  you would be annoyed even worse with insects.

  4. Nurse

  5. Teachers - the good ones anyway.

  6. This may not sound challenging enough as in intellect/education wise, but I think that maintenance/janitorial workers have one of the most challenging jobs. I mean, think about it. How many people out there could honestly clean dirty toilets among other pretty horrible situations?

  7. Free world nuclear submarine crew members. US Navy used to run 6mo tours which often turned into 9 or 12mos. and crew shortages caused Monday thru Friday 5day/week "training cruises" from home port during the 6 months of "shore" duty. Often these "training cruises" would result in emergency dispatches to global "hot spots". All current situations would be speculative due to the classified nature of assignments and availability of personnel or shortage thereof.

  8. Police officers not to be confused with law enforcers such as guards or judges .

  9. janitors and garbage collectors (big cities-hot weather.yuk!)tons more!

our economy relies on everybody doing their job-imagine staying in a hotel where the maids hadn't showed up for a week; how long would it take for the country to feel the impact of a work stoppage by auto mechanics? instant havoc if retail store clerks stayed home...

unfortunately, more people than jobs means many positions are easily filled, and supply and demand works on this aspect of the economy as well-pay rates are determined largely by the number of people willing and able to do the job.
