  1. I much prefer guitars having steel strings because they keep the calluses toughened. The sound of a quality nylon-strung guitar is unique, but I've found that some guitars having nylon strings are difficult to keep in tune.

Of my six guitars, only two are strung with nylon strings. I haven't played them in over ten years because I prefer the thinner neck that my style of playing exacts.

  2. classical guitar= nylon

    regular acoustic= steel

    :]

  3. Depends on what you are playing.  If you have a classical guitar (generally a much wider neck), you will want nylon.  These will be softer and easier to push down.  If you have a regular acoustic guitar, you would want steel - they have a brighter sound.  Also, with a classical guitar you tend to pluck individual notes, whereas if you are strumming you want steel strings (just sounds better).  Steel will be harder on your fingers at first, but you'll build calouses with practice and so in the long run this is probably what you will want.

  4. This all depends on what type of guitar you want to play. Nylons are used for classical guitars or Spanish style. Steel are for Rock, electric guitar or acoustic. Although nylons are alot softer, they wont sound right at all unless you put them on the right guitar. when you go to buy a guitar, who ever works at the music store will tell you everything you need to know.

    hope this helped.

  5. depends on what kind of music you want to play.  most common is steel.  not sure but i think nylon is more commonly used for classical.
