I know there really isnt a "best", but which one would you reccomend: Jow Ga, shaolin mizong, qingpin jian, or tai chi. If you know anything about these styles can you tell me some things about them.

  1. I would say Sanshou. It's the most modern type and is used in the miltary along with other self-defense techniques.

  2. well, from  your list i might say the  the MIzong, its the style "hu wen ja " used  ( the character Jet Li portrayed in fearless, also the founder of "Chin WOO")its a northern muslim style i believe... , But ! Tai chi is considered by many the "ultimate art" it has it all...I would recomend a school that offered atleast light sparring or  "manda' ...or how will you know what moves will work for you ??...good luck

  3. I'd say Shaolin Kung fu is the best way to go.

they have a unique style using animal forms. and when they go to use against another person, well its absolutly amazing!

look up shaolin power on youtube and youll see what i mean.

  4. could try wing chun:

  5. To some extent it must be decided based on what

is available in your area and the quality of the school.

I would recommend a school that emphasizes forms

over sparring. In other words, non-contact is better

because it's much safer and more disciplined. You

will probably seldom use the art in combat, but you can

use it every day for health and spiritual development.

So the forms should be stressed. Next, I would

look for a school that connects martial arts with Zen.

If you know about the Shaolin temple (read about it

on wikipedia) you know that there are 3 things that

the monks were taught... Zen, to help them understand

"right action", Kung Fu, to  give them health and the

power to defend themselves and innocent persons,

and medical knowledge, to help those who are sick.

As soon as you attain the power of body and spirit,

you will see that helping others is what it's really all

    about.

Styles ? Wing Chung. You probably already know

about Bruce lee, but read about Wing Chung, and

how a woman named Ng Mui preserved the style

at the time of the destruction of the Shaolin temple.

Yes, there were also Buddhist Nuns.

She was one of the "five ancestors"... the only five

survivors of the battle. You will find all the great

history and tradition, as well as the forms and the

other things such as Zen, medical knowledge, and

even many secret weapons tricks within that style.

It will have the depth you seek, if only you can find

a good teacher. Remember of course that there

are many people who claim to teach it for the money,

and really know very little. Look for the quiet intelligent

teacher, not the big man who talks of physical strength.

Be prepared for a long slow training. If they say you

can master it in a year, that is not the right school for

    you.

    Many Blessings and good luck,

    Jeanie

  6. The one where they are fast as lightening, it's a little bit frightning, and uses expert timing.  Least not to forget, it must come from funky china town.

  7. Shaolin if you can find it. Five Animal Shaolin is what I would recommend. As for telling about them, just look it up. Google, wikipedia, etc.

  8. There isn't a best style, but if you're talking about the best for you, then it really depends on your physical attributes.

If you're less acrobatic, Southern styles of kung fu have shorter stances and are less acrobatic. They also deal more with punches and striking with the hands, so they're good if you have a lot of upper body strength.

If you're flexible and acrobatic, a Northern style would work well for you. The stances are longer and lower, and there are more kicks and other acrobatic moves. Better if you're of a light build.

Tai chi is also useful. I'd recommend Chen style tai chi, as it's more lively than the more common Yang style. It also shares traits with Northern styles of kung fu. Two styles that I think really compliment each other are Changquan kung fu (a Northern style) and Chen style tai chi.
