If it looks like a U, it is convex.  If it looks like a C from right to left, then it is concave.  I remember it because concave things kind of form a cave type of thing.

Here's an easy way to remember it.  Concave looks like a cave; it caves in.  So the bowl of a spoon is concave.  The opposite would be the outer surface of a contact lens, which is convex.
