What do you recommend me to use to paint wood words that I have? I think I would like some kind of paint that... does not look like wall paint, you know, something bright or shine but not really really shine, just something nice and with cute looking, like if I bought it in Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or Macy's you know.

Thanks for your help!!!!

  1. I'd suggest Krylon matte spray paint, glossy might be shinier than you'd want. Other brands should work as well, but I prefer Krylon just because it's what I've always used, and the tips don't seem to clog or clump the paint as much as other brands. You can find cans at any craft shop or hardware store, and a regular sized can should run you $4 or $5.

Make sure that the surface is clean and dust free, lay down a tarp or some newspaper on a large cement spot outdoors (never spray indoors or in an unventilated area like a garage), and lay down 5-6 light, even coats from about 6 inches from the words, leaving about 15 minutes in between each coat for drying. Don't lay on just a few thick coats, because the paint will run.

With spray paint, you get a smoother finish without the brushstrokes that you get with hand painting. Also, if you do accidentally get a run or fish eye (dust imperfection in the paint surface that bubbles up), it's easier to sand out and repaint.
