Which kind of turtles are quickly going extinct?

Because i get all this c**p about eating turtles and how they're fixin to die out and all but I don't believe that one bit about the kind of turtle I eat, so i am curious as to which turtle you all have in mind.

  1. Most of the time, the turtles you eat are common snapping turtles, which have populations large enough to tolerate a fishery. I have heard stories about Campbell's buying painted turtles for their "Snapper" soup, though.

    All the sea turtles (loggerhead, hawksbill, green, ridley, and leatherback) are internationally protecterd as endangered. So is the bog turtle. There are also more local problems and federal and state governments have their own lists, which are more extensive than the international ones.

  3. In America, all of the sea turtles are protected.  The alligator snapping turtle is protected to some degree in some southern states.
