Question:

Which kind of weedeater is better - curved shaft, or straight with a gear at the bottom to make the turn?

I got into a discussion with a friend, and neither of us knows enough to be certain of the answer. He claimed straight, I'd bought a curved one (which I took back for another reason), but used the credit to get a straight. I just want to know for sure for future reference.

thanks

  1. A straight shaft last longer, is better on your back and on the motor. A curved shaft will tie up and break even if you keep grease in the shaft. And as far as which weedeater is better; go with the "industry standard"---------STIHL

  2. The curved sharft is good enough for most residential applications. The straight shaft is better for commercial use or more heavy duty use around the home. The drive is sturdier on straight shaft machines and that allows a person to use other attachments like a brush cutter or edger.

  3. I think that it is personal preference. I have had some shorter people complained that the straight weedeater was harder for them to handle because of the length of the shaft. The curved ones seemed shorter and easier for them to use.
