Well, you can get cream from whole milk by letting it sit at room temperature for a little while (minutes, not hours, but I'm not sure exactly how long...) then whisking it.  The cream (which is all the saturated fat) rises to the top and then you just skim it off.  If logic serves, the liquid left under the cream is skim milk.  Again, I'm no expert, but my fiance grew up on a farm and that's how they did it...Good luck!


  2. If you are buying milk at the store, you can't separate it.  It's been homogenized, which breaks the fat into tiny globules so they stay dispersed in the milk.

    If you have raw milk from your own or a friends' cows, you need no special tools.  Just let the milk sit in the fridge, and the fat (cream) will rise to the top.  You can then skim that off.
