  1. Bucks are outstanding knives.  A Woodsman will last a long time.  I've had mine for over 35 years.  Take a look at SOG and their new revolver klnives.  A combo with a revolving blade that one side is a saw.  SOG seal pup is also an excellent knife for almost anything you need.    Cold Steel makes some great folders, the voyager series and the Gunsite series.  Both in either 4 or 5 inch folders.

  2. I bet that this may seem a little of a shock for you but i SWEAR by my Cold War Era Romanian AK 47 Bayonette. First off, all military knives are made to be as rugged and dependable as they can be. I specifically sugesst the Romanian bayo because of the multi-tool on it. They come with a 10 (I believe) inch blade, which is cast hardened while in production. On the top of the blade, there is a saw which can be used for cutting wood or bone. Also, ALL AK 47 bayo's have wire cutters. These attachments are great for hunting/ camping. Another great thing about the bayonettes is that they don't rust.

  3. Mike,

Are you talking about a Vanguard knife or a Buck Vanguard? Vanguard knives are like $400.

Either way, all three of those knives you are fantastic picks. I prefer the bone handle (and perhaps the 119 series) but if you want a knife for all an all around purpose I would suggest getting a knife that it partially serrated. Cutting rope and branches and other common camping needs often require a good sharp serrated blade like a SOG® SEAL Pup Fixed Blade Knife or a Ka-Bar USMC Utility Knife. I have the Ka-Bar and I love it!

However, it sounds like you know your knives so you probably have a good serrated folding knife already that you would also carry around in your pocket while outdoors.

You are safe to stick with the Bucks, but check out the Gerber® Steadfast Drop Point Knife as well.
