Full question is as follows:

In 2001, for the first time, English constructed less than half the material on the web. Some predict that Chinese will be the primary language of web in 2007

Q. Does the prediction become truth ?

If someone can provide the answer in percentage, I will be very thankful. For example

1. 60% English

2. 30% Chinese

3. 10% Other languages

I know providing a precise answer is almost impossible for this question but any rough idea or any website which provides some information about the percentage of languages being used on web is highly welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

  1. i don't know of any website to provide u w/an answer..2008 is here and looks like english is still very much the language of the net

  2. Chinese may be the primary language for Chinese speakers, but that's only b/c China has the largest population. That doesn't mean that what they post on the web is necessarily for worldwide consumption. When last did you come across a website in Chinese that had relevant info for you (not sure, right? b/c it's not in a language you might readily recognize unless you read Chinese).

English is still considered the language of international communication and international language, so will prevail as the dominant language on the web.

I am basing my percentages on how relevant the information is to the world, at large, not how much is posted in one specific language. I would break it down as follows:

    1. 80% English

    2. 15% Chinese (based on how relevant it is, not quantity)

    3. 5% Other languages
