I'm a college student going to school to become a nurse and I was just wondering between the Dell Inspiron 1420 and the Macbook which would be best? My dad wants to get me the dell because its cheap and he says the macbook has to much software you have to go out and buy. I feel that the macbook is better because it has itunes, a webcam (which all apple computers have without extra cost like the dell) and other goodies. Which one would you suggest?

  1. It does not matter what notebook you buy as long as it serve it principle intention and that is to get you through collage.(You are there to learn).

    It would be safer to get one that has the best after sales support like a service centre close by so that in case of h/w failure you would be able to minimize your down time.

    When you start earning money then you could get a better one.

    Its good to save some for a rainy day

  2. the macbook your dad's reasoning about the software is bogus

    macs can run windows xp and vista  these days  ina dual boot enviroment  so you  can  use  all the software  you want

    your right the macbook si more value for th emoney what you get  standard with amacintosh you need to buy extra  at a higher cost with a  dell

  3. defs go with the macbook theyre defs worth the cost, i have never had a problem with any of the macs

  4. Whichever laptop offers the most me memory and is smaller is the best choice. Since you'll be a college student you wont be able to drag around a huge laptop and you need all the memory to store you work.

  5. If you are looking for portability, power, speed and battery life, i would strongly suggest the Gateway 6842 (6836 USA). Some of the features include:

    4GB of RAM (best available)

    250GB hard drive

    14.1" Ultrabright Screen

    -->Webcam<--

    Vista Premium (64-bit edition)

    Best battery life of it's class

    The best part is that is currently $699CAD at bestbuy.ca (regular)

    As for the Dell vs Macbook debate, i would go to Cnet.com. They have the most extensive reviews on anything electronic. They will explain the pro's and con's of both systems.

    Also, which Dell Inspiron are you interested in? There are more than one configuration of this laptop. Another thing, iTunes can be downloaded on a PC, not just a mac.
